Equal parts homage and sartorial inspiration, American Style: The Look and Legacy of JFK Jr. celebrates one of the world's most stylish men, and his enduring influence on contemporary American style and fashion.
John F. Kennedy Jr. was a fashion icon. Named People's Sexiest Man Alive in 1988, JFK Jr.'s public persona was defined by his image, and his distinct combination of Ivy League, American sportswear, and street style continues to inspire. Riding his bike through Manhattan, in his ubiquitous flat cap and sunglasses. Walking his dog, Friday, in TriBeCa in understated khaki shorts, a bright yellow T-shirt, and brown leather sandals alongside his wife, Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Or dressing up for a black-tie gala with an unmatched confidence and flair-he was one of a kind.
And despite the dozens of books written about the man the press dubbed "America's Prince," this key aspect of his identity and source of enduring obsession-how he dressed-remains unexplored. Until now. American Style is a fascinating and inspiring visual journey of JFK Jr.'s life expressed through his look. Organized by theme-A Man About Town, Sporting Life, Suited Up, and more-and featuring over 200 photographs, every page of the book captures what made him unique and why it still matters.
There are original interviews from insiders and contemporaries like RoseMarie Terenzio, JFK Jr.'s former personal assistant, plus sidebars and deep dives throughout (such as the surprising history of the flat cap, the origins of suit tailoring, a roundup of JFK Jr.'s varied and unpredictable selection of watches, and more).
With a foreword by iconic menswear designer Todd Snyder, American Style is an ode to the lasting influence of one of the world's most charismatic, captivating figures.
